Participants will begin the workshop by exploring the link between water quality and health, what safe drinking water means, aspects of drinking water quality and current international guidelines.

Next, participants will be introduced to elements of risk assessments and sanitary inspections in water supply systems. With this understanding of risks to water supplies, they will explore the essentials of collecting water samples from various types of water access points. They will have the opportunity to put into practice concepts and main techniques learned about
microbiological, acceptability and chemical water quality testing.

Finally, participants will learn about data management and analysis, and how to interpret test results and laboratory reports. With scenarios and case studies, they will practice data interpretation and making recommendations for target audiences.

If feasible, participants will have the opportunity to put into practice some of the knowledge and skills learned over the course of the workshop during a field trip.
